Almost finished with the "A to Z Blog Challenge"! Will we make it?

Yak!

We had hoped to post a picture of a Yawning Yak Yearning to be a Yegg (a burglar of safes), but if mom had to draw that, we'd never get this post up!

Buddies, we had to hit the dictionary for this one, BOL!

It means the "environmental design of residential and park land using various methods for minimizing the need for water use".

Which, in this crazy world, seems like it's a very important thing to know. Droughts have become more severe and even more prevalent. Here at Chez Prudence, we make sure that we don't waste water, as it really is a precious resource that sometimes can be taken for granted.
Mom's hoping to build a "rain barrel" this summer, to help keep the garden watered. We'll be sure to let you know how it turns out!

... knowing the Satisfaction of Saving a Shelter pet!

Still hanging in the "A to Z Blog Challenge"!
So, in keeping with the challenge, we'd like to introduce you to three cuties, whose names all start with the letter S!

Meet Sheba!

Here's what the good people at the Humane Societies in Newark, NJ have to say about sweet Sheba:
"Sheba is 2 year old domestic short hair, mostly grey with white kitty who came to the shelter as a stray on 10/10/13. She is a sweet, gentle kitty who is more interested in interacting with people than playing with toys. Sheba came right over to me and climbed into my arms when I opened her cage and called to her. She loved being held and didn't even mind all the small dogs that were barking around her. She had what she wanted my attention and my arms around her petting her."

Next, please meet Star and Stripes!

Star is a one year old domestic short hair calico, surrendered to the shelter in June, 2013.  Stripes is a three year old domestic short  hair, black and white. She was surrendered to the shelter in March, 2013. They’re both currently spending their time in the “Female Cat Room” at the Newark shelter.

Sheba, Star and Stripes, along with many other wonderful pets, are available for adoption at the Associated Humane Societies in Newark, New Jersey. All pets at the shelter are up to date on their shots and will be altered and micro-chipped once they've been adopted.
Please visit their website or give the shelter a call at 973-824-7080.

We love the wonderful photos, taken by Stacey Gammon of Stacey Gammon Pet Photography, of the adoptable dogs and cats on the Newark Humane Society's Petfinder pages, including this one of Star. As you can see, what a difference a great photograph can make!

The Society offers free DVDs with all cat and dog adoptions at no charge. $300 worth of coupons are offered to each new dog parent and $100 worth of coupons for each new cat parent too!

Earth Day is tomorrow buddies, so today we'd like to remind everyone to

This has been our mantra for a while here at Chez Prudence. Mom has a compost pile, and we recycle our bottles, cans and cardboard too. Yes, it takes a little effort, but it's worth it! From what I hear, we only have one Mother Earth, and we need to show her a little more respect!

On a side note, mom's a crafter, so of course she has a stash of stuff that she knows she can "reinvent" some day! Baroooooo! This pup doesn't have the time for crafts unless it's dog related!

Thanks for stopping by!

Mind Your P's and Q's!

Always remember to mind your P's and Q's buddies!

(at least that's what mom always tells me, BOL!)

Keeping up with the "A to Z Blog Challenge"!
We've often heard this, mom grew up hearing it she says. It was as a reminder for her to mind her manners. But after searching the vast "interwebs" for the source of this, we're still don't have a definitive answer!

So in the meantime, let's remember to mind our manners anyway, this way, there's no harm done!
Thanks for stopping by buddies!

L and M, Looking Marvelous!

Trying to keep up with the "A to Z Blog Challenge"!
Since we're participating in the "A to Z Blog Challenge, we thought it would be nice to introduce you to a couple of cuties at the Associated Humane Societies in Newark NJ, with the initials L and M!

Here's Lala!

This is what her friends at the shelter have to say about Lala.

"Lala is a recent owner surrender. Owners couldn't keep her, she is petite with a slender body. She was so happy we took her out and her puppy energy came out from being cooped up in the kennel. But as happy and energetic she gets, she will immediately "sit" when you give her the command. She needs a family to play with in a back yard. She still is a little puppy mouthy but that is easily corrected. Cute and sweet. No resource guarding, shares her toys and good by the food bowl."

 Next, here's Mikey!

Here's the information from Mikey's Petfinder.com page:

His friends at the shelter say that Mikey is an awesome Lab "Heinz 59" mix, with a great temperament. He's only 10 months old, loves to cuddle and give you kisses. He is "so gentle and sweet". Mikey was gentle with treats and did well on his food test. He didn't show much interest in the toys there but is great with other dogs. A "really nice dog. Very adoptable. We love him."

Lala and Mikey, along with many other wonderful pets, are available for adoption at the Associated Humane Societies in Newark, New Jersey. All pets at the shelter are up to date on their shots and will be altered and micro-chipped once they've been adopted.
Please visit their website or give the shelter a call at 973-824-7080.

The Society offers free DVDs with all cat and dog adoptions at no charge. $300 worth of coupons are offered to each new dog parent and $100 worth of coupons for each new cat parent too!

The Tuesday's Tails Blog hop features shelter pets, all waiting for their forever homes. Please consider featuring a cat, dog or any pet at your local shelter on your blog and join the hop! Sharing these friends will certainly improve their chances of being adopted!
Thank you Dogs 'N Pawz for hosting the hop, in doing so, honoring Princess Phe!

Knowledge!

Knowing what is good for you & your loved ones!

Check out the "A to Z Blog Challenge"!
Knowledge is so important for pet companions. They need to know what food is best for their pets and what's in the food that they eat. As you may know already, I'm an ambassador for Rachael Ray Nutrish® food for dogs. Mom likes that Nutrish® is made with natural ingredients and I love eating it. The cats have been pretty jealous, BOL!

Well we have some great news for all cats! Rachael Ray Nutrish® Natural Food for cats is now available! Wren and Sparrow are just going bonkers over this! Even more than when mom breaks out the Magic Red Light toy!

Made with the same loving care that goes into the Rachael Ray Nutrish® food for dogs, including that the first ingredient is real meat like fish or chicken. No meat by-products, artificial flavors or preservatives either.

There are two dry recipe choices: Chicken & Brown Rice or Salmon & Brown Rice, and six terrific wet food choices. What kitty wouldn't love to try Chicken Purrcata, Lip Smackin' Sardine & Mackerel, Ocean Fish-A-Licious, Tuna Purrfection, Paw Lickin' Chicken & Liver and Ocean Fish & Chicken Catch-iatore!

Mom loves that she can find Rachael Ray Nutrish® for dogs (and now cats!) at our grocery store. And what we really appreciate is that all the proceeds from sales of Nutrish® go to
Rachael's Rescue, an organization that helps animals in need!

To date, $6 million in proceeds have gone toward food, medical supplies and treatments for needy animals. That really makes my tail wag! Make my kitty fursibs very happy too!

You can find out where to buy Nutrish® for your pets here. Even better, because we know that once you have tried Rachael Ray Nutrish® for cats or dogs, you won't be sorry! There's a coupon here to make it even easier for you to "switch to Nutrish®"!

Now fur the record, this post is sponsored by Rachael Ray Nutrish®. All thoughts and opinions are our own!

Thanks for stopping by!

At Chez Prudence, we keep coming up with some bright (and some not so bright) ideas. Sometimes they turn out great and other times, not so much, BOL!

Me as an idealistic young pup!

G as in .....

Great dogs, but a few gruesome people!

Today is National Dog Fighting Awareness Day
so we'll be including this and Tuesday's Tails Blog Hop
in the "A to Z Blog Challenge".

Dog Fighting is a illegal, but continues to be a large problem throughout the country. We can't understand how this brings pleasure to anyone. The ASPCA works hard to investigate and crack down on dog fighting rings, but we need to build awareness of the problem within our communities.
Unfortunately, the pit bull has become the face of this scourge and their reputation tarnished by irresponsible owners.

Keeping to the letter G, today we would like to introduce you to Gwen,
one of the sweetest pitties you might ever care to meet!

Here's what the Good people at the Newark Humane Society has to say about her:
"Gwen is a petite tan pit and she is a lady on the move. She was very happy to go outside and play with the toys I had. She has beautiful hazel eye's that match her tan coat. She bunks with another dog and they get along fine. Her food test was good, she is some fast eater. And I bet she would love to have a nice big yard where she could run and run and get rid of some of her energy. She takes treats nicely from your fingers. And would appreciate if someone took her to doggie school.

"... Gwen attends the Shelter hikes and everyone loves the great enthusiasm this beautiful girl has. She will make a great hiking or walking companion and friend to whom ever adopts her. She loves to go on the hikes with the volunteers and other doggies."

We love the wonderful photos, taken by Stacey Gammon of Stacey Gammon Pet Photography, of the adoptable dogs and cats on the Newark Humane Society's Petfinder pages, including this one.

Gwen, along with many other wonderful pets are available for adoption at the Associated Humane Societies in Newark, New Jersey. All pets at the shelter are up to date on their shots and will be altered and micro-chipped once they've been adopted.

F as in Friends!

Since today's letter in the "A to Z Blog Challenge" is F, it's time for a funny story about one of my best friends!

For as long as I've lived here, my friend and his family have lived next door to us. I look for him everytime I'm in my yard *sigh*. For as long as mom has known him, she's called him Ricardo.

Well, he has been very polite and never bothered to correct her. Until one day this winter.
He's helping her dig out our car and when they were finished, she says "thank you Ricardo, you're always helping!". Then he tells her, "That's ok, but you always call me Ricardo. My name is Hugo! But that's ok too! I have an Uncle named Ricardo!"

As far as I'm concerned, he'll always be "Friend" to me 'though!

Thanks for stopping by buddies!

Doggy Daycare!

Mom found the Barker Lounge for me way back when I was a puppy and are we glad she did!

I don't get there as often as I used to, but when I do, I have a blast with all my buddies! There are so many benefits of daycare for dogs including socialization with people and other dogs, lots of exercise and playtime, relief from boredom and loneliness. The dogs are assessed and put into groups depending on size, age and activity levels. Just take a guess at what group I'm in, BOL!

This is my pal Matt, one of my favorites from the Lounge!

We're taking part in the "A to Z Blog Challenge", and so far we're keeping up! I'll have to give my "assistant" a special treat if we complete the challenge!

Baroooo buddies, thanks for stopping by!
