BarkWorld Report, Day 2 & A Give Away!

Hi buddies!

Day two has come to a close at BarkWorld and so far it's been a blast. Among the many high points today was Victoria Stilwell's keynote. Most of you may know her from Animal Planet's "It's Me or the Dog" show. She's just as dynamic and funny as she appears on the show!

Victoria is genuinely dedicated to improving dogs' lives everywhere and we love her training techniques. She was very clear in her telling of why suppressing bad behavior with force doesn't solve the problem. Check out eHowPets on YouTube to see some of her training videos.

After her presentation, she graciously talked with her many fans, signing her new book, and answering questions!

Now the good news! Mom picked up an extra copy of "Train Your Dog Positively", signed by Victoria!

  2. Positive reinforcement is a great way to train dogs.. Sure beats the "dominance theory" that so many people seem to really be into! I'd love to win this book to learn more about it!

  5. The benefits for positive training would be peace at home and the end of eaten furniture, I hope.

  7. We don't know her but her techniques sound like the ones that our Lady likes. She is totally obsessed with positive reinforcement and teaching replacement behaviours . . . . this is the problem of having a behaviourist as a Lady. Lee and Phod

  8. Mom is so jealous. She wanted to go to Bark World but we all just moved to a new house so she couldn't make it. She says she could really use that book though. I think it is because I have a new brother Sam. Couldn't be me that needs training, right?

  11. Everytime I counsel adopters, I state and write POSITIVE training - and then demonstrate, having them show me back what POSITIVE training means. Sounds like you are having a GREAT time, Pru! Victoria is a wonderful person in my book (which has not yet been written - HA). Thanks for keeping us up to date.

  14. I was trained with positive reinforcement. I get "thank you"'s and "good Girl" in place of treats. Those words mean a lot to me.
