Summertime & The Livin' Is Easy, We Hope!

 Hi Buddies!
Summertime is almost here buddies and we've already had a heatwave in the Northeast! I don't know about you, but even 'though I'm a coonhound from the south, I don't tolerate the heat very well. Mom makes sure I have lots of cool water and keeps my cool-a-roo in the shade when we're hanging out in my yard.

Over the next few weeks, we're going to post tips for keeping our furry friends happy and safe in the heat of the summer.

Although we're sure most pet parents realize how dangerous it is to leave us unattended in a car, we still need to remind people that either don't know any better or just aren't thinking! Sometimes we do mischievous things because we just don't know any better, and we'd like think that's what happens when people leave their best buddies in the car! Sure, maybe you think it's only going to take a few minutes while you run an errand, leaving your best pal in the car, but those minutes are crucial! Better to leave us home than to take any chances!
Thanks to Petfinder for the cool (get it, cool BOL!) infographic, explaining what to do if you see pets left in a parked car.

  3. Great tips sweetie. Such important information too. M gets very angry when she sees an animal shut up in a car in the summer - even on a day where the temp is only 80! The car still gets very hot - even she doesn't like to sit in a car in bright sun with the windows down., It's not enough.

  6. Thanks, Prudence - I'll share that info-graphic. If the temp is only 70, dogs and children should not be left in cars. I carry a brick with me during the summer just in case. Haven't had to use it yet....

  8. Luckily I've never seen a dog suffering in a hot car. (Partly because we are lucky here by the coast with nice usually not-too-hot weather.) But this reminds me that I need to look up the number for Animal Control and put it in my cell phone!

  9. First of all, when I saw your first image I thought for a second, "Wait a minute! How did my coon hound get on your blog?", and then I realized she wouldn't leave me for a second (BOL!) and then I relaxed for a bit. Second, I love the coolaroo! Very cool...get it? Third, there are a lot of people out there who think they will be in the store for just a few minutes and then they are surprised that their dog is panting (or worse) when they return. Everyone needs a reminder and I'm glad you posted this!

  10. Yep...the girls only stay out 5-10 minutes at the most for their midday potty break. And they are all panting like crazy when they get in! Isn't even August yet-that is when we have 100+ days. *sigh*

  14. Great infographic! My dogs love traveling with me, but not so much in summer. I don't take them along unless I'm staying in the car with the windows down.

  15. Great advice! It gets super hot here too, so Mum is always checking to see if any animals are left in cars....

    Wags to all,

    Your pal Snoopy :)
