A Different Concept of Pet Insurance

One of the many great things about attending a Petcentric Social Media Conference like BlogPaws is getting to learn about new products and new innovations on the market place.
Figo Pet Insurance is among the sponsors this year. Their concept to pet insurance goes beyond the reimbursement and deductibles to a more complete system of maintaining your pet's health. Through the use of innovative technology and a choice of three plans, pet companions are given reliable options and peace of mind.

Figo Pet Insurance is underwritten by the Markel Corporation, based in Richmond, Virginia. Figo's coverage provides reimbursements for treatments administered by licensed veterinarians, emergency vet clinics, and specialists anywhere in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

Among the many items covered are Veterinary Exam Fees, Specialists' visits, accidents, emergency visits, surgeries, prescriptions, hereditary, chronic and congenital conditions, holistic and alternative therapies, cancer treatments, and more.

My favorite part of the Figo plan is the ability to upload your pet's medical history to the Cloud, where via an app (IOS or Android), you can access this information anywhere, especially useful in the case of an emergency if you're away from home. The app has many features including appointment reminders, a "Near Me" button, claim services, veterinarians, and Pet GPS!

The ability to upload from any device or send documents directly into your Pet Cloud via your personal email @MyPetCloud.com is ideal for the "paper challenged" person that I tend to be. As hard as I try to be more organized, my system of filing important information doesn't always work out as well as I've anticipated. Figo allows you to upload all of your pet's medical history and photos of veterinary bills and other important items. The Figo app lets you share the information that you choose.

Prudence was covered by a different company's pet insurance plan, which worked well for us, but filing a claim was a problem. Faxing forms is really a nuisance, especially if a fax machine isn't among the many tech items we owned at the time. With the Figo plan, claims can be made via the app, making things a bit easier in a time of stress from a sick or injured pet.

If you think that Figo Insurance may be a good option for you, head to the Figo Insurance website and get a quote. It's simple as one, two, three. See which of the three plan options work best for you and your pet. There's an excellent graphic on the site, much more extensive than the sample I've added below, showing the difference in coverage between Figo Pet Insurance and other plans available.

I can't speak from experience, since until I bring another dog into my life, pet insurance will wait but I can honestly tell you that I believe Figo Insurance may be the option for me. Thanks so much for stopping by! I'll be posting more updated from BlogPaws shortly!
As Prudence would say, "thanks fur stopping by pals"!

A New Chapter

Many of you know that Prudence passed on last October. I still haven't been able to put her loss into words, as if then I would be admitting that she really is gone. She was such a presence and inspired so much of what I've come to do over these several years. I know she'll always be with me in spirit and hopefully soon another coonhound will come into my life. I do know that Pru left big paw prints to fill, as she's left those same paw prints on my soul.

I've decided to keep the blog up in her memory, and over the next few weeks, I'll be introducing you to some of the kitties that share our home. I know they miss her too but it's going to be interesting to see how they react to a new canine pal. I have a few reviews to post in the meantime so be on the lookout for those and I'll also be writing about shelter pets and rescue transports.

There will be a bit of an evolution to this, as I'll also be sharing pictures and stories of this year's gardening adventures and some crafting thrown into the mix!

Perhaps this will be the summer that the chicken coop gets assembled? We'll see!

As Prudence would say "thanks fur stopping by pals"!

Tuesday's Tales, Meet Oscar!

Hiya buddies!

This week we'd love for you to meet Oscar! This fellow is a real sweet heart (and may we add, a party animal)!

Just look at those eyes! Oscar is pretty articulate, so we're going to quote him from his Petfinder.com page:
"My volunteer friends call me a "lap dog" and a big "teddy bear." As you can see from my pictures, my favorite place is with you! I like to be near you, giving kisses and snuggling.

"I also like to take walks, and I walk pretty nice. Sometimes if I smell something I like I'll pull, but I mostly trot along and listen very good when you direct me. I will sit for treats and take them very gently and I will share my toys and food with you with my big smile. When I met another doggie during my evaluation, I gave him kisses. I like to jump and play with other doggies!"

Wow! It's hard to believe this cutie is still waiting for his forever family to come and get him!

Oscar is currently at the Newark Humane Society, at 124 Evergreen Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. When inquiring remember to have Oscar's identification number (131950) handy. The shelter is open 7 days a week from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM. For directions please call 973-824-7080.

With each adoption, the Society will present a DVD on TRAINING YOUR DOG or YOUR ADOPTED CAT at no charge. The dog video will include problems with chewing, jumping, mouthing, etc.

Tuesday's Tales, meet Petey!

Hi pals!

This week we'd love for you to meet Petey!

Petey is a older dog, between 9 and 10 years, recently surrendered to the shelter.  He's up to date on all his shots and is neutered. It's a mystery as to why he was surrendered. Petey is housebroken, good with children and other pets. He's available now for a meet and greet. It would be wonderful if he could live out the rest of his life with a loving family.

Petey is currently at the Newark Humane Society, in Newark, New Jersey. When inquiring remember to have Petey's identification number (136604). The shelter is open 7 days a week from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM. For directions call 973-824-7080.

Road Trip Ready With Kurgo!

 Hiya pals!

The good folks at Kurgo asked us to review one of their car seat covers. Since we just purchased a new vehicle a few months ago, we jumped on the opportunity! It's hard for us to keep the interior nice and neat when traveling with a hound like me!

Easy to install, the cover stays in place with adjustable loops that go over the back seat head rests and elastic cords help to keep it taught below the seats. There's also a sturdy strap that can wrap behind the seat backs to keep the cover in place.

The covers are waterproof and stain-resistant, very important to consider when you're transporting this hound! We love that the openings for the seat belts have Velcro® closures, helping to keep fur, dirt and any spills from reaching the upholstery. The fabric has a nice feel, not too rough and not slippery at all. The cover is machine washable, in cold water. Just hang it up to dry.

There are two roomy pockets, perfect for any toys that might come along for the ride too.

As you can tell, when I'm in the car, I'm ready to roll!
The Kurgo company knows how much people enjoy the great outdoors and want to share the experience with their canine companions! It can be a rough and muddy ride, so it's great that Kurgo stands behind their products with a lifetime warranty!

Please excuse the drool! Another reason we love our Kurgo car seat cover!
One of the things we really like about the Kurgo company is that they give back to the community. They've donated to over 400 non-profit organizations that help animals. They've also created the Kurgo Foundation. The foundation supports non-profits assisting animals in the wake of a disaster.

This coonhound gives our seat cover a 4 Paw rating!

Disclaimer:  We received the Kurgo car seat cover to review, but our opinions are our own. We would never recommend a product or service that we didn't completely trust and believe in.

Thanks for stopping by!

Meet Hazel!

Hiya buddies!

June is "Adopt a Shelter Cat" month, so we thought we would introduce you to Hazel, a sweet kitty currently living at the Petsmart on Route 22 in Union, NJ. One of the reasons we chose to feature this sweetie is that she reminds mom of our Sparrow! Just look into her beautiful eyes!

If you'd like to invite her into your heart, please check out her Petfinder.com page or stop by the Petsmart during business hours to meet her. Nashville, Finally!

Hi buddies!
Mom made it to BlogPaws 2015!
This year the conference is being held in Nashville, Tennessee. Since she's a little geographically challenged, she figured it might be a fun drive. Well, 14 plus hours later, she's busy patting herself on the back for making her longest road trip ever!

It wasn't so bad, she had good company with the Stunning Cathy Keisha's TW navigating, plush CK, Mario and my flat stand in doing some back seat driving.

Of course, I'm staying at my home away from home, the Barker Lounge, but I'll be making sure that she posts all the fun things that comes along this weekend. She's considering making some major changes to our blog, so this weekend she needs to learn as much as she can!

Thanks for stopping by, we'll be blogging more from BlogPaws tomorrow!

Throw Back Thursday!

Mom's feeling nostalgic, she loves the less crazy calmer dog that I've "matured" into, but she can't believe we've been together for more than 10 years!

Where does the time go pals?

Thanks for stopping by!

Yowza! I'm Almost Famous!

Hiya buddies!

Many of you may know that mom works for a pattern company. Well, the Art Director needed a white iPad for a photo shoot so mom offered hers. So to make a long story short....

 Hey, that's me!

Because of all the photos of me (& the stories, BOL!) I have a bit of a "reputation" with her workmates! So now I've made it to print. Hoping this mug sells a lot of patterns!
If you sew, this is a very easy number to make for your kindle, iPad or whatever. And there are a few different versions so check them out!

By the way, we received no compensation for this post. We're just thrilled that I was featured!

Cats & Dogs - A Giveaway! Oh My!

Hiya buddies!

As many of you know, I share my home with a few kitties. Yeah, yeah, I know. I've heard it all before. "Fighting like cats and dogs", yada, yada. Well not at Chez Prudence! I've lived with kitties since mom brought me home and we get along fabulously just fine.
For the most part, I respect their space and they respect mine, BOL! Okay,  I'll admit to snarfing up their food sometimes,. But in my defense I try my best to wait until they've finished! And sometimes I NEED to lay down on the same cushion on the couch that they're already laying down on, but I'm only canine, after all!

Well, when mom went to BlogPaws in the spring, she visited the "Cat Style Lounge". Kate Benjamin of Hauspanther online magazine, displayed an array of terrific items, all made for kitties and the people that love them. Lots of cool ideas to make my fursibs (& me) happy! Next thing you know, we were sent an uncorrected proof of Kate and Jackson Galaxy new book "Catification - Designing a Happy and Stylish Home for Your Cat (and You!)" to take a look at. Yowza!

This book is full of great information, starting with the "human/feline" relationship. A lot of details to help the reader understand cats and what their specific needs are. It includes lots of "Catification" tips from Jackson's TV show "My Cat From Hell" too!

So many great tips and lots of great ideas and stuff for the "Do It Yourself" crowd too. Mom really loves that!

The publishing date for "Catification" is October 14th, but you can pre-order your copy now and for every copy preordered before the publishing date, $1 will be donated by the publisher to organizations dedicated to helping homeless cats! Nice! And anyone that preorders "Catification" will receive exclusive discounts toward shop.hauspanther.com and store.jacksongalaxy.com.
Now for some really good news! The kind folks at Tarcher/Penguin Publishing also sent a copy for one of our readers, along with a very cute Catification Kitty Lunch bag!

Meet Mocha, this Week's Tuesday's Tale!

Hi buddies!

This week we'd love for you to meet sweet Mocha!

Mocha is a beautiful young Pit/Lab mix. The description on her Petfinder.com page says that she's full of energy and will make a great jogging partner. She's very friendly and has a great disposition. Mocha is in great condition and is a new arrival at the Newark Humane Society's shelter. She is very good on her leash and was easy to walk. No soft toys for her 'though, as they will be history, a good nylon bone would be better! Good food test, And she releases the raw hide when asked.
The shelter recommends a "one dog family" for her, as she is reported not to be good with other dogs.

Just look at that happy face! What a wonderful picture (and what a difference it makes too)!

Mocha is currently at the Newark Humane Society, in Newark, New Jersey.  And with each adoption, the Society will present a DVD on TRAINING YOUR DOG or YOUR ADOPTED CAT at no charge. The dog video will include problems with chewing, jumping, mouthing, etc., but who trains a cat, BOL? There are $300 worth of free coupons offered with the dog video and $100 in free coupons for each cat adopter. It's a win - win buddies!

Weekend Mischief!

Hi buddies!

As many of you know, I'm wild about Nutrish™ for dogs. Mom feeds me the Grain Free variety, mixed with some of the wet Nutrish Delish™.

Well, mom orders the Nutrish Delish™ from Amazon, as a monthly subscription. Our delivery was Saturday, and she thought that the box would be safe since it was unopened.

Silly lady! She came home to the torn box and the containers and lids scattered in the foyer!

I was in the middle of enjoying some when she took it all away! How mean of her was that?
Well, she couldn't resist sharing the aftermath with our friends, so we took a couple of pictures. She considered creating a sign, like you may have seen on those "dog shaming" memes, but I certainly didn't look shameful, BOL!

Hey, who could blame me? I know a good thing when I smell it, and this coonhound
has the nose that knows all!

Now, I'm a Nutrish™ Ambassador, but we're just letting you know that our Nutrish Delish™ shipment is paid for by mom. We're proud to have Nutrish™ as our sponsor!
Thanks for stopping by!

Tuesday's Tails, Meet Bosco & Rosco!

Hi buddies!

This week we'd love for you to meet Bosco and Rosco! Just look at these faces!

Here's their story from their Petfinder.com page:
"Bosco (more white faced) and his brother Rosco (short tail) are two very tight knit, 18 month old brothers. Their love for one another is unmeasurable. They do everything together and so it was only fitting their evaluation be as one. These two are a duo. Together they walk well on the lead. Apart they get upset and cry.
"Both Bosco and Rosco are very gentle and loving. They enjoy toys and share them well. Both have no issues being handled head to tails even while they eat. Bosco and Rosco are good with people and other dogs. They love to go for walks and to just hang out. They are a beautiful pair of Old English bulldogs (Eng. Bulldog/pit cross). They would make any bully lover happy and proud. These are beautiful dogs with big hearts!"

*sigh*

These fellows are currently at the Newark Humane Society, in Newark, New Jersey.
All my paws are crossed for these two! Hoping that they find their forever home, together soon!
